AnaBat II is a sophisticated instrument that detects the ultrasonic calls emitted by bats, employing the Frequency Division technique to make the bat calls audible. The frequency divided signals can be heard from the internal loudspeaker or headphones, recorded, and analysed to assist in the identification of the bat species. The AnaBat II Bat Detector was designed as part of a system that supports either active or passive monitoring of bats. By using it together with the Anabat CF Storage ZCAIM (Zero-Crossings Analysis Interface Module) it is possible to permanently record the signals of bats onto a compact flash memory card for analysis later in the laboratory. For active monitoring applications, the ZCAIM output can be interfaced through its computer connection (serial port) directly into a PC, to produce real time sonograms. Alternatively, the Bat Detector can be used entirely on its own for the simple detection and monitoring of bats. For the audio output, the ultrasonic bat calls are heard at one of three four Audio Division ratios, selected by the front panel 'AUDIO DIV' button. This allows the user to select the Audio Division ratio most suited to his or her hearing in relation to the types of bat calls being analysed. For most purposes, an Audio Division ratio of 16 is recommended.
