Acoustic Tags are small sound-emitting devices that allow detection and/or remote tracking of fish in three dimensions. Commonly used to monitor the behaviour of fish, studies are conducted in lakes, rivers, tributaries, estuaries and at sea. Acoustic tags assist public utility agencies, private firms, and state and federal agencies to meet fisheries regulations worldwide.
RF Transmitter configurations are usually custom-built for each species and research program. Consider the weight of the package and how long the transmitter must run (longevity), method of attachment to the animal, antenna type and battery shape and desired frequency. Inevitably there will be trade-offs required.
