In collaboration with researchers at Duke University in the USA, the Fumunda 70 kHz Pinger is designed to alert offshore Dolphin species to the presence of commercial fishing nets.
The F70 frequency is beyond the known hearing range of seals and sea lions, mitigating the so called “dinner bell” effect whereby it is believed that seals are attracted to lower frequency Pingers.
The F70 has significant application opportunities where seals and sea lion depredation leads to lower fish take, and incidental entanglement.
Numerous research organizations have recently initiated trials of the F70, including Minho University in extensive trials supported by the Portuguese Government.
