Model LTM LTM transmitters are tiny single stage instruments, suitable for monitoring the smallest of creatures. They range in size from a very modest 400^ milligrams, including battery and stranded wire aerial, and a useful battery life of 10-12 days, to1.4 grams and a useful battery life of 6 to 7 weeks. Their pulse rate is approximately 55 per minute. All of our transmitters are custom-made to suit the special requirements of each individual researcher. These more commonly used single stage radio transmitters (glue-on) are especially suitable for bats, birds and other small creatures. They can optionally be outfitted with tiny cable-tie collars for another means of attachment—at a slight increase in weight.
Please note the above weights are averages and can vary slightly according to packaging used. Physical size (with battery attached): 12mm x 5mm x 2.5mm. (*) The LTM transmitter uses a specially-made crystal employing the more commonly used frequencies; other frequencies can be ordered as required. (^)The lightest transmitter is activated by the soldering of two protruding wires. When a small increase in weight is not an issue a reed switch can be fitted enabling activation by a removable magnet used in shipping. This applies to both the LTM and LT1. The LT1 range of transmitters are only marginally larger than the LTMs—starting at 520 milligrams. Differing principally in weight and size, LT1 transmitters come standard as glue-on, or optionally outfitted with cable-tie collars or brass tuned loop collars. Their pulse rate is also approximately 55 per minute.
Please note the above weights are averages and can vary slightly according to packaging used. Physical size (with battery attached): 12mm x 8mm x 4mm. Batteries can be paralleled to increase battery life when weight is not an issue. The tracking range of these transmitters has been reliably reported at up to 12 kilometres when tracked from the air; 1-2 kilometres tracking from the ground with the transmitter at tree-height. Tracking distances can be increased with the use of larger antennae, antennae booster, and higher vantage points. The recommended antenna/receiver combination for use with these transmitters would be our top-of-the-line Australis 26k receiver and our high gain Yagi model.
