Transmitter overview

The following is a brief description of our miniature radio transmitters designed specifically for wildlife tracking. Basically, we have two styles.

Single stage transmittersSingle stage transmitters (Models LTM and LT1)

These use 1.5 volt silver oxide batteries and are especially suitable for the smallest of creatures. These transmitters can weigh from as little as 400 mg and upwards (complete with battery and aerial). Variables affecting their weight would be the size of the battery, aerial, and factors relating to method of attaching to the animal - e.g. collar, glue-on, implant etc. These little transmitters make very useful temperature-sensitive implants.

Options: tuned loop aerial collar, implant, magnetic reed switch, temperature sensitivity.

Two stage transmittersTwo stage transmitters (Microlite)

These typically use 3, or 3.5 volt lithium batteries, and are more sophisticated and powerful than single stage transmitters. They weigh from 2 grams upwards (with battery and aerial), depending on the size of the battery and packaging required; (for example they can be fitted to a tiny button cell suitable for some of the smaller creatures; or to a 'D' sized cell and be housed in a heavy duty collar, suitable for buffalo and other large creatures).

Options: As above and *programmable to indicate low battery, movement, mortality. Also comes with an event option eg time on time off.
